Today we welcomed guests from the UK aboard the cruise ship Celebrity Millennium 🇬🇧 at Shimizu Port.
We were lucky enough to see Mt. Fuji in the morning from the port, but by the time we reached the main viewing areas, the mountain had disappeared behind the clouds.
The guests were a little disappointed, but honestly, even seeing Mt. Fuji for a short moment can be considered lucky. The mountain is famously shy.
To make up for it, we spent the day exploring quiet nature spots and local areas away from the crowds.
We also stopped at a local craft beer brewery for some light food and drinks, enjoying a slower and more relaxed side of Japan.
When travelers spend too much time in famous tourist areas and busy cities, days like this in nature can feel especially refreshing.
It almost feels like the peaceful environment fills the small gaps left by the stress and crowds of travel.
Days like this always remind me how special the southwest side of the Mt. Fuji area really is, with its balance of nature, local culture, and slower atmosphere.
