Today’s guests joined us from California 🇺🇸 for a short hike around the Hoei Crater on Mt. Fuji.
They had an early train back to Tokyo, so after the hike we made a quick stop at Shiraito Falls before heading to Shin-Fuji Station.
One of the advantages of a private tour is the flexibility to adjust the day around each guest’s schedule and interests.
Along the way, we talked about something many visitors never notice.
Mt. Fuji receives more than two billion tons of rain and snow each year, yet there are almost no visible rivers or large waterfalls flowing down the mountain itself.
That is because Mt. Fuji acts like a giant natural water reservoir.
The water slowly filters through layers of volcanic rock for years, sometimes decades, before finally emerging as the crystal-clear springs and waterfalls found around the mountain.
By visiting both Mt. Fuji and Shiraito Falls in the same day, it becomes much easier to imagine that hidden journey.
In a way, we spent the day traveling with the water itself—from where it falls on the mountain to where it eventually returns to the surface.
